There’s always something happening in Portland and you should get out and enjoy some of the special activities. Now that you are all settled in your Spring Garden apartment, take advantage of what the area has to offer. Here are some events coming up in March that are sure to be of interest.

Free Art Days

Did you know that the Portland Art Museum has a free art day the first Thursday of every month? March is no exception. Grab a friend and head over to the museum and see what it’s all about. You’ll have a lot of fun and likely want to go back in April.

African Film Festival

The Cascade Festival of African Films at the Hollywood Theater and the Cascade Campus of Portland Community College sponsors and hosts the event every year. While it starts in February, you’ll have through the first week in March to enjoy the movies. If money is a little tight right now, don’t worry. The admission is free.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

What would March be without a St. Patrick’s Day parade? The parade is great for people of all ages and follows a route that ends at Hare Field. Rest assured there will be plenty of street vendors with lots of good things to eat and drink. There is no charge to attend the parade, so make plans to attend on March 11.

The Body Mind and Spirit Expo

Are you into alternative health or have an interest in psychic phenomena? During the weekend of March 11 and 12, you can immerse yourself in lectures, exhibitions, and presentations about all things to do with these topics. Held at the Washington County Fair Complex, there is bound to be something that will raise your awareness and provide some new ideas on how to take care of yourself.

Northwest Comic Con

Comic Con is coming close to Portland and you can be a part of it! Held at the Tillamook County Fairgrounds, the event is always tons of fun. You get to walk around and visit with people wearing all sorts of costumes, pore over collector editions of comic books and vintage toys, and visit with some celebrities who have played in science fiction movies, series, and other entertainment forms. One small feel will get you a pass for the entire weekend of March 18 and 19.

The Tulip Festival

Held at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn, you get to see acres of tulips and daffodils in full bloom. There are gifts to be purchased and plenty of good things to eat. Take along a few friends and make a day of it.

There’s a lot more going on during the month of March. Plenty of the activities are close enough to your Spring Garden apartment that you can leave in the morning and be back by nightfall. Get out and enjoy what the greater Portland area has to offer and you’ll appreciate the fact that you live in such a great city.
