How do you like the idea of traveling less than a mile to pick up some groceries or enjoy a seafood meal? Put on some comfortable shoes or grab your bike and head to Multinomah Village. You’ll find plenty of shops with all sorts of things to look at. Meet some friends for a cup of coffee or have a whole meal. Since the Village is so close, you’ll find yourself spending a lot of time there.
Head over to 35th Street and enjoy some of the music, food, and drink offered at Ship Tavern. There’s also plenty of bar games to help pass the time. Come with friends or make some new ones while you relax and enjoy the wide selection of beers offered at this watering hole.
If live sports is what you crave, this is the place to go. Currently, Providence Park is home to the Portland Timbers and the Portland Thorns. College football is also found at the Park, so you will have something to see all year round.
Pioneer Courthouse Square
Since you’re new to the area, it pays to soak up some of the local culture. One of the best ways to get started is paying a visit to Pioneer Courthouse Square. Located in the downtown area, the Square serves all sorts of purposes. During warmer weather, you can enjoy outdoor concerts. The Square is also the site of demonstrations, something that you will need to know if you have a passion for social or political issues. Rallies and vigils to commemorate different types of events are also often held here.
Tuba Christmas is an event that you won’t want to miss. With up to 300 tuba and euphonium players on hand, the concert features a wide range of holiday tunes. Remember there are plenty of places to eat and get a cup of coffee within walking distance.
